I suppose being brought up in a Christian home, one might think that to become a Christian oneself would be just a natural progression; passed from father to son. How far from the truth that statement is. God as it were has no grandchildren only children. I quickly learnt that to become a Christian is something I had to do for myself.
In my early teens, lying in bed one night and thinking of what would happen if I were to meet God? What would he say? How could I escape His all knowing gaze? How would I be able to face Him knowing my life was not as it should be? It was then that I became aware of my condition before Him and realised my only hope was to call out and ask for His mercy, seek His forgiveness and free gift of faith. There on the bed that night I trusted Christ to be my Saviour. From then on I realised that my life would need to be different and with His strength I endeavoured to live according to the bible.
I had an uneventful school life managing to pass my exams, I took up a student engineering apprenticeship and started out on my degree in Engineering, It was during my third and penultimate year at the Polytechnic that Bev and I got married. I had met Bev 5 years earlier in a regional church youth meeting; Bev had come along from another local church. I found out years later that it was another friend that she had fancied that night and only went out with me because I had had the courage to ask. But here we are some 30 years later still happily married. However, it has not always plain sailing, because even though we were very much in love Bev herself was not a Christian. It was not until 2 years after our marriage, whilst we were living in Kent, that she also put her faith in the only One who could deal with the problem of sin; the Lord Jesus Christ. For by His death on the cross of Calvary He took to Himself the punishment that was rightfully ours, freely justifying us, and making us right before a Holy God.
During our stay in Kent, which lasted about 7years, we were blest with two sons (David and Peter) only returning home to Bridgend following the death of my father and the sudden illness of my sister.
We have been in Bridgend now for over 20yrs and have known many ups and downs in our lives, very much like most families. Through it all we can testify to the grace of God who we believe has been instrumental bringing us to where we are today.
We are happy to belong to the fellowship at Ogmore by Sea Evangelical Church and want share our faith, whether in our neighbourhood, on the golf course or at work. To let those around us see that the answer to true peace and contentment is to be found in Jesus Christ.
Why not come and meet us and families like us at our services where you will have a warm welcome and hear the Truth of God’s Word proclaimed.
